5 tips on creating a successful home working environment

During the COVID-19 pandemic, many of us that can are now working from home. In support of World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2020, Terex Trucks has put together a helpful list of guidance to improve the way we’re all working from home.

1. Follow your normal morning routine

Following your normal morning routine is the best way to make sure you’re in the right headspace to have an effective day. So, get up, get dressed, eat breakfast, and use the time you used to commute to the office to do something you enjoy and have a nice morning before sitting down to work.

2. Your bed is not your office!

It’s important to try and keep your work and leisure spaces separate so that you can leave your work behind you at the end of the day. Try to designate an area for everything work related, and ensure you have a good workstation set-up which allows you to sit in the correct position. This space should be tidy, light and lack distractions.

 3. Take regular breaks

When you’re working alone it can be easy to forget to take a proper lunch break, but this isn’t good for your health or your work. It's important to give yourself time to think about something other than work, so be sure to get up, stretch, eat and return to work mentally and physically refreshed.

4. Keep communicating with your colleagues

Whether it’s through Skype, Teams, emails or calls, make sure you are in regular contact with your colleagues. Not only will this allow you to check in on progress, but it will also provide a support network for you and your colleagues – it might be the only human contact someone has that day.

5. Schedule your day

Scheduling your workday and deciding what you will achieve, just as you would normally, is key. Working defined hours will not only give you structure and routine, but it will also motivate you to complete tasks in the allotted time and keep you from going overboard.
